“We’re delighted that five of our students were awarded an ICAS medal this year and we are proud of all of our students participating and working towards their personal best,” said Principal Lynda McInnes yesterday. “As a small school of 40 students, we are a tight knit community, and it is lovely to see our students shine.”

The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) are designed to recognise academic excellence, students are assessed on their ability to apply classroom learning to new contexts using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.
They take place in over 20 countries, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Africa, Europe, America and Pacific countries.

This year Dara students achieved:

• Science Medal Year 2
• Science Medal Year 4
• Science Medal Year 4
• Science Medal Year 4
Medals are awarded to the student with the highest mark within South Australia for that year level.

• Maths High Distinctions 3
• Science High Distinctions 4
• English High Distinctions 3
High Distinctions are for the top 1% of participants in Australia.

• Maths Distinctions 4
• Science Distinctions 7
• English Distinctions 7
Distinctions are for the next 10% of participants in Australia.

• Maths Credit 6
• Science Credit 4
• English Credit 11
Credits are for the next 25% of participants in Australia.

• Maths Merit 4
• Science Merit 7
• English Merit 4
Merits are for the next 10% of participants in Australia.

Two of our medal winners this year also received medals for maths in 2018 and a Dara student received a medal for English in 2019.
